Q: The picture is choppy. How do I get a clear and smooth picture?


A: The option to replace older versions of QuickTime was not selected, so you will need to install QuickTime. Also, check system resources and swap-file settings.

Q: How do I resolve the error message: "you must have 256 colors"?

A: Change the video driver to SVGA 640 x 480 x 256:

In Win 3.11:
  •  
  • go to Main\ Windows\ Setup
  •  
  • click on Options\ Change System Settings
  •  
  • hit the scroll button on the display box and scroll to SVGA 640 x 480 x 256

    In Win 95:
  •  
  • select Start\ Settings\ Control Panel
  •  
  • select Display\ Settings tab
  •  
  • set the display area to 640 x 480, the color palette to 256, and the video adapter to SVGA

    A: There is a known conflict within the hardware; the software is not compatible with Aptiva machines. Return the software to the place of purchase.

    Q: How do I resolve a "QuickTime sprite error"?

    A: There are several solutions available:
  •  
  • Check the Windows Control Panel to ensure the screen is set to window and NOT full screen
  •  
  • Reinstall QuickTime, then perform ScanDisk and Disk Defragmenter (In Windows 95: Start\ Programs\ Accessories\ System Tools)
  •  
  • If either of these do not work, the CD may be defective. Exchange it at the place of purchase.

    A: Follow the intructions in the above answer to change the display to SVGA 640 x 480 X 256.

    Q: How do I clear up choppy sound, or I hear no sound at all?

    A: Turn on system sounds by selecting Start\ Settings\ Control Panel\ Sound. If you can hear the system sounds, but no sounds from the program while running it, you need to update the audio driver. Check your computer's manual on how to do this.

    A: Clean the CD. If the message still appears, check for scratches or cracks. If there are problems or defects, exchange the CD for a new one at the place of purchase.

    Q: Several different error messages occur from time to time. How do I get the CD to run normally?

    A: There are several solutions available:
  •  
  • Turn off all extensions in the Extension Manager except Apple CD-ROM, QuickTime, QuickTime PowerPlug, and Sound Manager.
  •  
  • Rebuild the desktop by holding down the Option and Apple keys while restarting the computer.
  •  
  • Turn off RAM doubler.
  •  
  • Boot from the system CD and run disk first aid.
