Q: How do I resolve "LINGO.INI ERROR" when trying to run the program?

A: Change your video display to 256 colors. If the problem persists, try making a text file called Lingo.ini and save it to the Windows directory.

In Win 3.11:
  •
  • go to Windows Setup in the Main Program Group
  •
  • select Windows Setup\ Options\ Change System Settings
  •
  • change settings to either your video card's display driver supporting 256 or use the SVGA 256 color drivers

    In Win 95:
  •
  • select Start, Settings, Control Panel
  •
  • in the Control Panel: select Display, then Settings tab
  •
  • click on the Color Palette and choose 256 colors
  •
  • If you do not have that as an available choice then you'll need to click on change display type or change adapter type.
  •

Q: I am getting the error: "mmsystem 265. This alias is already in use by this program. Use a unique alias rather than the device name." How do I eliminate this error?

A: This error is usually caused by an incompatibility with the MPEG drivers. The PC must be using the latest Microsoft ActiveMovie drivers. Call PC support for that type of computer or download the drivers from Microsoft. They also come with Internet Explorer 3.0.

Q: What is MPEG and why do I need it?

A: MPEG is a format for Audio/Visual software. It allows movies to be played from files on a PC. MPEG was developed by the Motion Picture Experts Group to allow companies to develop presentations and multimedia software. It usually requires the addition of hardware and software to a Personal Computer, but some products use software on existing hardware.

Q: How do I resolve the error: "Can't read from drive 'D'"?

A: Some new PC's have a ZIP drive pre-installed. Sometimes the zip drive is setup between the hard drive and the CD-ROM drive. For instance, Hewlett Packard personal computers have the ZIP drive set as drive "D:" and the CD-ROM drive is set as "M:". One solution is to call Hewlett Packard support and have them talk you through the steps to move the ZIP drive to letter "N:". A temporary solution is to put a ZIP disk in the ZIP drive. This should allow the CD to be read and the error will not occur.
