Q: When launching Invention Studio my display is scrambled. How do I get a clear picture?

  •
  • click on Options\ Change System Settings

Q: My cursor doesn't respond or skips while I'm running Invention Studio. How do I get it to function properly?

A: If you find that the mouse cursor jumps around on the screen when you perform certain actions in Invention Studio, and you are using Microsoft Intellipoint mouse software, turn off the snap-to option:
  •
  • open the Control Panel, usually found in the Main group in Program Manager
  •
  • select the Mouse option, which opens the Mouse Manager dialog box
  •
  • turn off the snap-to option
  •

Q: Why don't I hear the background music at the beginning?

A: Invention Studio plays CD Audio (not WAV or MIDI) during the intro and exit of the program. If the CD audio drivers are not set up correctly, you may get an error message. You will be able to continue and hear the intro narration but you won't get the background music. Call the PC manufacturer's support line for help setting up the CD audio drivers.

Q: How do I fix the error: "Internal Error 117-C:\KB\BD32422.GVD ... Cannot install group BD"?

A: This error is usually caused by entering dash in the user name when trying to save or build an invention. Do not type hyphens, dashes or special characters.

Q: I can't find my invention. Where did it go?

A: After an invention is patented, it is removed from the laboratory and cannot be accessed again. And remember, there is a limit of six inventions per user.

If you wish to review an invention occasionally:
  •
  • do not patent it, or
  •
  • save it to the temp directory on your hard drive
  •
  • copy it back into the Invention Studio directory when you want to look at it

Q: How do I resolve an error message indicating that memory is low?

A: If system resources are running low and you need more RAM, close all unnecessary extensions and/or control panels. This can be done in the extension manager. Close any unnecessary open windows using the Finder. Do not close any QuickTime, QuickTime plug-ins or CD-ROM extensions. Restart the computer for these changes to take effect.
