Q: What do I do to solve the error "No Direct Draw Hardware"?

A: The video driver that you are using is not certified to use DirectX 5.0. The vendor of your PC or the vendor of your video card will be able to help you find the correct driver that is certified to run DirectX 5.0

Q: The program exits to Windows at various points in the game. What could be wrong?

A: The system may be low on resources, especially if you only have 16 megabytes of system RAM. To maximize system resources, turn off auxiliary features like ambient sound.

To do this:
  •  
  • move the cursor to the top of the screen and a menu should appear

  •  
  • on the far right of this menu bar select PREFS

  •  
  • turn off the different settings: AutoSave, Video Screen Size, Conversation Logs, Navigational Videos, Site Intro Videos, and Captions

    Q: What do I do to solve the error "Display Mode not supported"?

    A: You must have 2 megs of video RAM for the movies to run in Byzantine. You might also want to make sure that you have DirectX 5.0 compatible drivers installed on your PC.

    To do this:
  •  
  • Go to Add/Remove Programs, located in your Control Panel folder

  •  
  • Double-click on DirectX Drivers. This will open up the DirectX setup screen

  •  
  • Confirm that all devices for video are certified

  •  
  • Go back to the Control Panel and double-click on Display

  •  
  • Click the Settings tab

  •  
  • Confirm that the Color Palette shows 16 bit color

    Q: The installation hangs at some point. What can I do?

    A: Check that the CD does not have fingerprints or smudges on it. Too clean, wipe with a damp, lint-free cloth, wiping from the hole in the center towards the outer rim of the CD.

    Q: The video and the audio repeat themselves. How do I resolve this?

    A: Be sure to close all other programs before launching Byzantine:
  •  
  • press the Alt+Ctrl+Delete keys at the same time. A close program window will appear.

  •  
  • highlight one item at a time and select End Task on all programs except for Explorer and Systray

    Q: The system response is really slow in the last passage scene at the end of the game. Why?

    A: Your processor may be too slow. Make sure your system meets the minimum requirements. This scene will be impossible to conquer if your system is too slow.

    A: The United Connection Installer icon will install free software that allows you to place reservations with United Airlines via the Internet.
